Why Are You Still Paying Per Device For Security Guard Software?

Today we really need to talk about the death of per device licensing for your security guard software. When I first started Officerreports.com, my idea was to make everything about the software easy to use and to understand, including the pricing which is the reason that we pioneered per site pricing. So, what is per site pricing, and how is it different than the per device or per user billing rates that other software companies offer?

Pricing for Security Guard Software

Well, let me explain it to you. Per site pricing is different in a few ways. First, when you are creating a billing rate for a potential custome, you can simply add our per site pricing as part of your hourly rate. So, for example, doing some really rough math, if you have a 168 per week site, that equals about 672 hours per month. You divide that by the cost of the software, which in December 2019 is $50/site to give you about $0.07 per hour.

Now, you just add $0.07 to your billing rate to account for the cost of the software. Using that same scenario, now let’s compare that to per user or per device pricing. With per user or per device pricing, you have to take into account the number of officers that are going to be there, the number of phones that you need, how many back up phones that you’ll need. You also have to consider whether your supervisors need to have phones, as well as how many supervisors are going to have phones? The list of considerations that you need to build into your pricing goes on, and on, and on.

As I’ve said before, per site pricing is by far easier and less expensive than per user or per device pricing, especially if you’re going to have more than one security officer on shift at a time.

So, lets talk about the second waht that per site pricing is benefical to security guard companies. To do that, let’s consider sites where you have more than one officer or device on site at a time. In this example we have four sites at $50 per site which gives you $200/month. The same four locations with one device costing $50 per device gives also gives you $200/month. You would think that those would be equal, but what happens when you start picking up clients where you have multiple devices per site?

When you look at a scenario where you have multiple devices per site, it paints a very different picture. Now all of sudden your pricing has just jumped to $100 per location or $400/month when you’re looking at per device pricing. Again, the benefit of per site pricing is that you can add as many devices as you want and your pricing will never change!

The third benefit is that when you have per site pricing, you have the option of having your officers use their own devices. After all, one of your greatest fears is having your security officers walking away with the company phone correct?

Generally speaking, per device pricing is just way too expensive for security guard software. As I’ve said before, per site is a lot simpler and a lot less expensive than per user or per device pricing, especially when you have more than one security officer on a shift.
